Phil Shöenfelt: Shining World

SHINING WORLD
/Phil Shöenfelt/

When I lay down beside you
All I heard was the sound
Of wheels in motion
Spinning in the ground
You can't tell
What it means to me
To be here beside you
Beneath this hanging tree

I walked out this morning
Under the cruel sun
The world was shining
Like it had just begun
But I felt so empty
Way down inside
With words of anger
I rode her till she cried

"You need salvation"
It's what she said to me
"You put yourself on trial
So you can be set free
Nobody knows
About those torture games you play
But I don't care
I've got you anyway
I've got you anyway"

The wind was howling
All around the door
She said, "I'm leaving you -
I can't take it anymore"
And I looked in the mirror
Saw the mark of Cain
I walked out of the garden
Out through the wind and rain
And I cried, "Oh, father -
What have I done?
Save me from this vision
Of what I have become"

I don't understand
No, I don't understand
Save me from this vision
I'm just a hollow man
I don't understand
No, I don't understand
Save me from this vision
I'm just a hollow man
I'm just a hollow man
